Johnson, top doubles team earn Men's Tennis All-NACC honors
WAUKESHA, Wis. – Senior Russell Johnson was named to the All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Singles Men's Tennis team for the fourth time in his career, as the league released its 2014 season awards Friday.
Johnson (Monticello, Minn.), the 2013 NACC Player of the Year, posted an 18-6 overall record this year in seniors play. He was 7-2 in NACC matches, playing all of his matches as the No. 1 singles player for the Falcons.
He finished his career with a 31-2 NACC regular season record, playing most of those matches at No. 1 singles. All 18 of Johnson's NACC matches over the last two seasons were played as the Falcons top singles player, where he finished with a 16-2 mark.
Johnson also earned a spot on the All-NACC Doubles team for the third time over the past four seasons as he and his partner, senior Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.) were recognized after a strong season as the Falcons top pairing.
Johnson and Turner posted a 4-2 mark in league matches playing as the team's No. 1 duo. The two have won 10 total matches together this season, six of those coming in non-conference play.
Lee Johnson of Wisconsin Lutheran College was named the NACC Player of the Year, while Brian Davenport of Edgewood College earned Freshman of the Year honors. Mike Davidson of MSOE and Ben Oestreich of Edgewood were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
The Falcons will be in action tomorrow when they take on No. 2 Edgewood College in a NACC Semifinals match. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m. from the Nielsen Tennis Stadium and the winner will advance to the finals immediately after.
