Aurora secures NAC bid to NCAA Men's Golf Championship
NAPERVILLE, Ill.
The Aurora University men's golf team finished third in the Northern Athletics Conference Spring AQ Meet today at Stonebridge Country Club, but combined with their title in the NAC Championship in the fall it was enough to secure the conference's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.
The Edgewood Eagles, who had a runner-up finish at the NAC Championship, took the NAC Spring AQ Meet title by one stroke over Benedictine University with a 615 (307-308) total. The Spartans wound up third with a 623 (306-317).
Lakeland College was fourth (630), last year's champion MSOE fifth (634)and Wisconsin Lutheran College (698) sixth. Concordia University Wisconsin finished seventh (703), Marian University eighth (731) and Rockford College ninth (825).
Aurora, who won the NAC men's golf championship by 10 strokes in the spring, edged out Edgewood College by two strokes in the combination of the two meets for the automatic bid.
The combination of the NAC Championship in the fall and the NAC AQ Meet in the spring determines which team receives conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Aurora's two-event total was 1,243, followed by Edgewood's 1,245 and Benedictine's 1,251.
Edgewood's Aaron Gavin (South Milwaukee, Wis.) won medalist honors at the spring meet with his six-over score of 150 (73-77). CUW's Phil Waara finished 6th overall with a 77,76 (153) two day total.
The 2010 NCAA Championship will take place at Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa., May 11-14.
