Field Hockey goes back on the road, falls at Washington & Jefferson

WASHINTON, Pa. – After playing at home for the first and only time this season Friday, the Concordia University Wisconsin Field Hockey team went back on the road Sunday, heading east to Pennsylvania for a matchup against Washington & Jefferson. The Falcons fell behind 4-0 and were unable to make a comeback, falling 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washington & Jefferson scored twice in the opening half to build a 2-0 lead. The Presidents would add two scores in the opening seven minutes of the second half, extending the lead to 4-0. Rachel Buyan scored both of the early second-half goals for Washington & Jefferson.

- The Falcons got on the board in the 49th minute with the seventh goal of the season for freshman Kelsey Fulton (Sussex, Wis.). Fulton's goal was set up by senior Rachel Scholz (Cedarburg, Wis.).

- After a Washington & Jefferson score, the Falcons struck again, this time off the stick of senior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska). Muller deflected the goal in off a long pass by freshman Sophia Kottmer (Virginia Beach, Va.) for her fifth goal of the year and fourth in her last two games.

- After being outshot 13-3 in the first half, CUW played an even second half with the Presidents in terms of total shots. Each team fired seven shots in the second half.

- Both goalies saw action for CUW, with freshman Kennedy Boyer (Saline, Mich.) getting the start. She made six saves in 41:42, while freshman Alyssa Palmer (La Verne, Calif.) came in for the final 28:18 and stopped three of the four shots she faced.

- Karlie Baran was the goalie for the Presidents, recording three saves in her 12th win of the season.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be back on the road next weekend for a pair of games. CUW will begin the trip with by visiting Centre Friday at 5 p.m. eastern.
