Field Hockey impresses in front of second largest Division III crowd

MEQUON, Wis. – Playing in front of 806 spectators, the Concordia University Wisconsin Field Hockey team impressed in the program's first-ever home contest. The Falcons posted a 6-0 win over Lindenwood Belleville, playing in front of the second-largest crowd in NCAA Division III Field Hockey history.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 6, Lindenwood Belleville 0
- Location: Tomasini Stadium – Mequon, Wisconsin
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 5-8, Lindenwood Belleville 0-7

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) will only have one home game in her CUW Field Hockey career, but she made sure it counted with a hat trick to pace the Falcons. Muller scored in the 14th, 33rd, and 40th minutes of the game. Her opening goal, which put the Falcons up 1-0, went down as the game-winner.

- Senior Rachel Scholz (Cedarburg, Wis.) netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season on a deflection off a shot from freshman Isabelle Bilton (Burlington, Ontario).

- It was freshman Sophia Kottmer (Virginia Beach, Va.) who put the Falcons up 3-0 in the 26th minute on her sixth tally of the season. Scholz set up Kottmer's score.

- Freshman Sam Dunn (Sussex, Wis.), who assisted on Muller's opening score, also set up both goals after halftime for the Falcons, finishing with a team-best three helpers. Muller scored in the 40th minute to make the score 5-0, while freshman Kelsey Fulton (Sussex, Wis.) finished off the scoring for the Falcons in the 45th minute.

- The Falcons dominated possession on Friday, finishing with 30 shots compared to just one for the Lynx. CUW had 23 penalty corners in the contest as well.

- Freshman Kennedy Boyer (Saline, Mich.) picked up the win by playing the first half at goalie for the Falcons. Freshman Alyssa Palmer (La Verne, Calif.) finished off the shutout by coming in for the second half.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 806 fans make Friday's game the second largest NCAA Division III Field Hockey crowd of all-time. Rowan has the record with 1,370 fans in a game earlier this season.

- Muller, Scholz, Kaitlyn Wenzel (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Paige Cowgill (Glenview, Ill.) were honored at halftime as the four CUW seniors. It was the only home game in the career of this senior class.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will go back on the road Sunday for a trip to Washington & Jefferson. The contest is set for a 1 p.m. eastern start.
