Esports competes in inaugural event

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin made history last night by competing in the inaugural esports event and tying for 27th in the Tuesday Fortnite League.

The Falcons competed in three rounds and elevated their play in the second and third rounds to finish in the top-15 in each of the last two rounds. The combo of freshmen Austin Lichtenstein (Augi) and Austin Williams (GingiThe4Head) helped score four total points. Lichtenstein recorded four eliminations during the final two rounds.

"We threw away the first round, which hurt," head coach Lewis Smith said. "We followed it with two really strong rounds after feeling out the competition. It's a long season and I am not worried about scoring only four points this first week. It was a learning experience for Augi and GingiThe4Head. I think the problem was that we treated the first round like any other game and that bit us with a quick exit. Rounds two and three we were more strategic and had more communication and it really helped."
