Martz hits three-run homer, Baseball drops non-conference game

KENOSHA, Wis. - Adam Martz crushed a three-run home run,
but it wasn't enough as Concordia University Wisconsin dropped a
12-7 non-conference game at Carthage College. The Red Men scored in
six different innings and recovered from a 7-3 deficit in the third
frame.
CUW scored all seven of its runs in the top of the
third, all with no outs recorded. The Falcons hit three doubles in
the frame and were highlighted by Martz's first long ball of the
season.
CC was outhit and left 11 runners on base, but
capitalized on eight walks that directly led to a pair of runs and
four CUW errors. Jon Kleinmeyer controlled the mound for the Red
Men, throwing seven innings and striking out five in relief.
Senior Austin Sarauer (Campbellsport, Wis.) led the
Falcons with a 4-for-5 performance, while Martz (senior, West Bend,
Wis.) and junior Daniel Mueller (West Bend, Wis.) each finished
with two hits. In all, seven different players crossed the plate.
Freshman Michael Winter (Cedarburg, Wis.) (1-1) was tagged with the
loss after giving up two earned runs in 0.2 innings of work.
Joey Aiello recorded three hits and two RBI to lead CC
(9-11). Drew Bailey and Tyler Eickmeyer each concluded the win with
two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Kleinmeyer (1-1) earned the
victory on the mound.
CC found the scoreboard first with a trio of runs two
innings into the ballgame. A bases loaded walk scored the first run
prior to a RBI fielder's choice and a groundout which gave the Red
Men a 3-0 lead.
CUW (8-11) responded by batting around the order and
plated seven runs in an inning for the second time this season. The
Falcons connected with the Red Men pitchers for three doubles,
three singles and Martz's homer, and were aided by just one
error.
CC answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and
fifth innings before scoring three in the sixth frame to take
control, 11-7. The Red Men tacked on an insurance run in the
seventh.
The Falcons return to Northern Athletics Conference
play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Maranatha Baptist Bible
College starting at 12 p.m. They then host Lakeland College in a
doubleheader on Sunday at Kapco Park starting at 1 p.m.
