Falcons Post a Season-High Score in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Concordia Wisconsin acrobatics & tumbling team fought one of the best teams in the nation on Monday night and finished with a season-high score. The 13th-ranked Vikings of Augustana protected their home mats with a 252.770-225.410 victory to send the Falcons to 1-2 on the year.

"The first road trip of the season is always a great learning experience and bonding opportunity," said head coach Sarah Koenig. "There were a lot of positives to come out of tonight and this trip. We will continue to learn and grow from tonight. We are excited to continue this busy stretch of the season in Florida and Michigan."

The Falcons started the evening with a season-best score of 32.25 points in the compulsory event. CUW finished with 9.40 points in the pyramid heat and 9.350 points in the toss heat.

The flock followed that up with 21.700 points in the acro event. The Blue and White posted a higher score than the Vikings in the six-element heat with 6.400 points with senior Paityn Taormina, junior Ellen Marie Sanders (Joppa, Md.), junior Madisen Arendt (Waukesha, Wis.), junior Alexis Pfeifle (Macomb, Mich.), senior Amanda Owens (Stevens Point, Wis.), sophomore Ainslee Taylor (Alto, Mich.) and senior Eliana Schmit (Germantown, Wis.).

Concordia responded with 26.200 points in the pyramid event. The inversion pyramid finished with a season-high score of 8.600 points. The open pyramid recorded a 9.300-point performance.

Monday night saw the Falcons secure 24.900 points in the toss event. The open toss with Paityn Taormina, sophomore Jadyn Vail (Belvidere, Ill.), Eliana Schmit, Ellen Marie Sanders and Amanda Owens finished with 8.700 points.

In the tumbling event, the Falcons finished with 43.400 points. Concordia posted season-high scores in the duo pass with Paityn Taormina and Ellen Marie Sanders at 7.000 points and in the aerial pass with Ainslee Taylor at 7.950 points. The high score of the event came in the open pass with Paityn Taormina at 8.800 points.

The evening wrapped up with a season-best score of 76.960 points in the team event.

The Falcons posted five season-best scores on Monday night.

Concordia Wisconsin continues its four-match road trip on Saturday in sunny Florida at Saint Leo.
