Women's Cross Country competes at UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational

WINNECONNE, Wis. – The Concordia University Women's Cross Country team took part in one of the biggest Division III meets in the nation Saturday, running at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitation. The meet consisted of 46 teams and 414 runners.

THE BASICS

Falcons Score: 30th place – 863 points (Haegler – 96th, Scheele – 115th, Sprotte – 147th, Agnello – 252nd, Arndt – 253th)
Location: Lake Breeze Golf Club – Winneconne, Wis.
Team champion: Washington University of St. Louis (136 points)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Senior Marya Haegler (West Bend, Wis.) paced the Falcons in her first race since winning the Ken Weidt Classic over a month ago. She turned in a season-best 22:59 on the 6K course.

- Junior Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.), who won the Gene Davis Invitational a week ago, turned in a PR time on Saturday, continuing her impressive season. She posted a 23:14.23 as the second Falcon to cross the finish line.

- Sophomore Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.) had a huge PR for the Falcons as the third finisher for the team. She turned in a time of 23:31, which was nearly a minute faster than her previous best, which came earlier this season.

- Sophomoore Paulina Agnello (Brookfield, Wis.) was next in line for the Falcons, clocking in at 24:48.

- The fifth Falcon to cross the finish line was freshman Carolyn Arndt (Rochester, Minn.) as she turned in a PR for the second straight week. She ran a 24:51 as the rookie continues to show impressive strides for the Falcons. Another runner who continues to show improvement was next in line for the Falcons in sophomore Hannah Barrow (Sheboygan, Wis.). She turned in a 25:04 for her second straight week with a PR time.

- The seventh runner for the Falcons Saturday, sophomore Martha Kulberg (Maple Grove, Minn.), also posted a PR for the second straight week. She completed the course in a time of 25:12.

- Another rookie also keeps showing improvements for the Falcons and that is freshman Emma Verbeke (Appleton, Wis.). She ran her first race of the season last week and topped that time Saturday by running a personal-best 25:13.

OTHER FALCONS

- Two other Falcons ran on Saturday. Freshman Sara Kieselhorst (Waukesha, Wis.) was just 13 seconds off her PR time, running a 25:20 on Saturday. Senior Larissa Schlitz (DeForest, Wis.) posted a time of 25:39.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will be in action two weeks from today when they host the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships. The women's race is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
