Women's Cross Country competes at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, MINN. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Cross Country team placed 10th at the Roy Griak Invitational, one of the largest meets in the Midwest. The Falcons had 15 runners compete in the 232-runner field.

THE BASICS

Falcons score: 260 points (Scheele – 28, Sprotte – 33, Wert – 57, Kieselhorst – 65, Kulberg – 77)
Location: Les Bolstad Golf Course – Falcon Heights, Minn.
Team Champion: Wellesley – 50 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Junior Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) paced the Falcons on Saturday, completing the 6K course in a time of 25:12.8. Scheele finished in 28th place among scoring runners.

- Sophomore Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.) was next in line for the Falcons as she crossed the finish line in a time of 25:23.7. Sprotte was 33rd among scoring participants.

- A pair of freshman figured into the scoring mix on Saturday in Becca Wert (North Aurora, Ill.) and Sara Kieselhorst (Waukesha, Wis.). Wert posted a time of 26:35.9, while Kieselhorst recorded a mark of 26:51.0 on the 6K course.

- Sophomore Martha Kulberg (Maple Grove, Minn.) ran a strong race in her home state as she was the Falcons final scoring runner in the morning. Kulberg came across the finish line in a time of 27:13.9.

- Senior Hannah Erl (Wauwatosa, Wis.) – 28:31.49
- Sophomore Nora Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.) – 28:36.49
- Freshman Meaghan Dorsey (Brookfield, Wis.) – 28;43.33
- Junior Lindsey Fratzke (Winona, Minn.) – 28:50.56

THE OPPOSITION

- Wellesley captured the team title Saturday with a score of 50, placing its top five runners all inside the top 20. They narrowly edged St. Olaf, which scored a 51.

- Kimber Meyer of Macalester topped the field by running 22:57.8, finishing 27 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.

- There was one other NACC school competing Saturday in MSOE. The Raiders finished in 17th place.

ABOUT THE MEET

- The Roy Griak Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the country, hosted by the University of the Minnesota. The event, now in its 30th year, features six collegiate races and four high schools races. More on this event can be found here.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will take next weekend off before taking part in the Gene Davis Invitational October 10. The meet, hosted by Lawrence University at Reid Golf Course, is set for a 10 a.m. start with the women's race.
