Falcons Clinch a Share of the NACC Title at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team clinched at least a share of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) title with a 7-2 victory at Marian on Sunday morning. The Falcons are claiming their eighth NACC regular season title in program history and their first title since the 2017-18 season. CUW moves to 8-2 on the year and 8-0 in the NACC.

The stellar duo of junior Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) kept Carly Paulson and Aeryn Olson quiet on court one with an 8-0 sweep to start the day.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Cheyanne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) and sophomore Mya Werning (Watertown, Wis.) swept away Julia Loomans and Melana Brunton, 8-0.

The Sabres snuck away with an 8-7 tiebreaker victory at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) was the first off the court in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Julia Loomans at No. 5 singles.

At No. 6 singles, sophomore Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) made quick work of Melana Brunton with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Ricki Budewitz put away Carly Paulson at No. 1 singles to clinch the NACC title at 6-1, 6-0.

Ashley Samuta snagged Aeryn Olson at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

The final Falcon point came from junior Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Abby Okon.

CUW can clinch the NACC title outright with a victory on Saturday at home against MSOE. Edgewood and MSOE are both at 6-1 on the year. CUW is currently 8-0.
