VanGroll steps down as Wrestling head coach

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin Wrestling head coach Corey VanGroll is stepping down as head coach after five seasons, as announced by Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill on Tuesday afternoon. A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.

During VanGroll's five seasons, he guided at least one wrestler to the NCAA Championship each season and coached the program's only individual NCAA Champion in Greg Sanders (149 lbs.) during the 2012-13 season. He also coached the program's only three-time National Qualifier in Sean Ambrocio (also an All-American).

"I would like to thank Corey for his years of service in our department," Barnhill said. "Corey took our wrestling program to new heights during his tenure as our head coach and put our University on the national stage. I wish him the best in his professional endeavors and look forward to new leadership in the program. Concordia University Wisconsin is a very special place and I am certain we will find a capable coach to continue the building of our program."

VanGroll's teams won three Northern Wrestling Association Tournament titles and he helped the program transition from the NWA to the CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin). In addition, the Falcons cracked the NWCA Top-25 coming in at No. 21 on March 6, 2013.
