Wrestling routs MSOE in season-opening dual

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin began its season with an easy 37-7 victory over MSOE on Wednesday evening inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The Falcons won a trio of bouts by fall and two by major decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin flexed its muscle throughout Wednesday's dual against MSOE, winning a trio of bouts by fall and two by major decision.
- The match started at the 149-pound weight class, where sophomore Miguel Betancourt (El Paso, Texas) pinned his opponents in one minute and 37 seconds to get the contest going.
- Following a close 14-13 decision win by MSOE at 157 pounds, sophomore Eric Martinson (Milwaukee, Wis.) put the hosts back on the scoreboard with an 11-1 major decision victory at 165 pounds.
- Senior Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) recorded a victory by fall in two minutes and six seconds over his 174-pound opponent to give Concordia Wisconsin a healthy 17-3 lead.
- Junior Mitchell Slatton (Granger, Ind.) picked up a 6-3 decision win at 184 pounds before senior Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) pinned his 197-pound foe in one minute and 47 seconds.
- MSOE tallied a major decision win at 285 pounds.
- The Falcons' freshman Matthew Saldana (Long Beach, Calif.) and senior Joshua Curcio (Granger, Ind.) didn't have to do much, other than walk to the center of the circle and get their arm raised for a forfeit victory at 125 and 141 pounds, respectively.
- Concordia Wisconsin has now defeated MSOE in five-consecutive years, the last three beginning the season.
