Elmhurst downs Wrestling in CCIW dual

ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst won seven of 10 matches on Thursday evening to win 36-11 in a CCIW dual victory over Concordia Wisconsin inside R.A. Fanagal Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elmhurst opened the dual by winning four-straight matches to build a 19-0 lead, which included a win by fall at 141 pounds.
- Freshman Eli Were (Brookfield, Wis.) put the Falcons first points on the scoreboard with a 7-5 decision win over Gunnar Hjorth at 157 pounds. Hjorth scored a point after escaping Were with 12 seconds left in the match to tie the score at 5-5, however, Were tallied the winning points with a two-point takedown seconds before the final horn sounded. It was his seven win by decision this season.
- The Bluejays took the 165 pound by a technical fall decision to increase their lead to 24-3 just past the midway point in the dual.
- Senior Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) won easily against Shawn Swiderek at 174 pounds with a 16-0 technical fall victory. The win moves his season record to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in dual matches.
- Elmhurst took the 184 and 197 pound matches to extend its lead to 36-8.
- Senior John Hinson (Glendale, Ariz.) won a close 2-1 decision over Scott Helton at 285 pounds to conclude the contest. The match was tied 1-1, but riding time gave Hinson a point and the victory.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin travels to Dubuque, Iowa for a trio of duals on December 17. They will compete against Wheaton, Ozarks and host Dubuque.
