Grant scores late power-play goal, Women's Hockey falls at Saint Benedict

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Erin Grant found the back of the net for a power-play tally late in the third period, but it wasn't enough as the College of St. Benedict earned a 2-1 non-conference victory over Concordia University Wisconsin at Ritsche Arena on Thursday.

The Falcons (2-10-2) outshot the Blazers by a 29-20 margin and held them to 0-of-4 on power-play chances, but a 2-0 deficit was too much to overcome.

Alli O'Brien was the offensive catalyst for CSB (4-3-3), scoring both of the team's goals. She marked the scoreboard midway through the second period with an even-strength tally, which was assisted by Allyson Nielsen.

Just over five minutes into the final period she scored off a Megan Brettingen pass to give the Blazers a comfortable two-goal lead. The statistics were even in nearly every category as both teams committed four penalties for eight minutes.

Following a CSB tripping penalty, Grant (sophomore, Allen Park, Mich.) tallied her fourth score of the season – her second man-advantage score of the year – for the Falcons.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) made 28 saves in her second start of the season.

The loss is the third straight for CUW, who returns to the ice for back-to-back games this weekend at St. Catherine University on Saturday and Hamline University on Sunday.
