Women's Basketball Runs Past Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team beat the Rockford Regents 54-50 on Saturday afternoon in its NACC opener, picking up its fourth win of the season in an effort spearheaded by junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.), who led the contest with a 20-point performance.

The Falcons opened the game outscoring the Regents 11-7 in the first quarter, as senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) collected six of her ten points on the day to put Concordia ahead.

The Falcons pushed their lead to as many as seven in the second quarter before Rockford brought the halftime score to three. Junior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) was the only Falcon to take an attempt from beyond the three-point arc in the quarter, sinking both of her shots to lead second-quarter scorers with six points.

The Regents stormed back in the third, using an 8-0 run to knot the score at 35 as the quarter came to a close. A layup from freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) in the final minute would end the scoring run for Rockford, and would also return the lead back to the Falcons

The two squads traded field goals in the opening moments of the quarter, but a Lexi Keating 3-pointer granted Rockford its first lead since the first quarter with just under six minutes in the contest. The Regents expanded their lead to four points on their next possession, but Concordia battled to snatch the lead back.

An ensuing free throw after a foul on a DeBauch layup in the game's final minute put the Falcons ahead 49-48. Amidst multiple key stops on defense in the following possessions, Lonigro and Ross made two free throws apiece to secure the win for Concordia.

The 54-50 victory puts the Falcons back above .500 in the 2023-24 season, and they will look to rise further above that mark in their next contest on Wednesday, December 6 against the 3-3 Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors.
