Falcons Conclude Colorado Action

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In their second game at the Rocky Mountain Tournament, the CUW women's basketball team faced a challenge with the Tigers of Colorado College, a team picked to finish second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Despite their valiant effort, the Falcons saw their three-game winning streak end with a final score of 76-64, falling to 3-2 on the year.

Junior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) ignited the scoring for the Falcons, opening the game with a made three-point shot.

But the Tigers would respond and establish an early 6-3 lead.

The first quarter saw the Falcons tie the game on four occasions. However, Colorado College would enjoy the 14-12 lead after the first quarter of play.

Out of the break, the Tigers went a run to extend their lead to 25-12.

Junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) caught fire in the second quarter, scoring all of the Falcon's 10 second-quarter points, hitting four mid-range jumpers, and scoring a layup.

At half, the CUW trailed Colorado College 36-22.

Early in the third, sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) drilled a triple from the left wing on a pass from senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) to cut the Tiger's lead to 11.

Once again, Colorado College would mount a response. But, with 6:52 remaining in the third, Erin Viergutz made a layup, and at the 6:13 mark, Lindsey Lonigro hit her second three of the night to shrink Colorado College's lead to just single digits.

At the end of the third quarter, Colorado College held the 57-42 lead.

Determined to post a comeback, Ava Booth drilled a triple out of the break.

Then later, with 6:07 left in the game, Ava Booth hit another three to bring the score to 65-54 in Colorado College's favor.

After a Tiger's layup, Ava Booth came down the court and swished her fourth three-pointer of the night to cut Colorado College's lead to 10 with 5:26 remaining.

After getting a stop on the defensive end, the Falcons' Erin Viergutz made a layup to cut Colorado College's lead to single digits, forcing a timeout from the Tigers' sideline with 4:33 remaining.

Out of the timeout, the Tigers regrouped and retook their double-digit advantage to secure the 76-64 victory.

Aubrey DeBauch recorded a double-double in the loss, totaling a team-high 21 points with 14 rebounds. Meanwhile, Ava Booth hit four three-pointers, scoring 19 points, while dishing out a team-high three assists.

Also in double figures was Lindsey Lonigro, finishing with 10 points and three rebounds.

Defensively, Aubrey DeBauch, Erin Viergutz, and senior Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) all had one blocked shot, while freshmen Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) and Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) had one steal apiece.

The Blue and White will now look to their next nonconference matchup, set for Wednesday, Nov. 29th, against the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
