Women's Basketball Slices Scarlet Hawks

MEQUON, Wis. – It was all Concordia on Saturday afternoon inside of the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse. The Falcons overwhelmed Illinois Tech to the tune of a 67-44 victory to improve to 7-7 on the year and 4-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Falcons came out hot on Saturday and took an early 13-2 lead and never looked back.

Freshman Andrea Butterbrodt drained a pair of free throws to put CUW up 17-8 after the first quarter. The Falcons feasted on the glass in the opening 10 minutes with 15 rebounds, including four for junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) and senior Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

Concordia cruised into halftime with a 27-16 lead. Senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.0 had five of the 10 points in the second quarter.

The Falcons extended the lead to 43-30 after the third quarter and a jump shot from Aubrey DeBauch to close the third. Freshman Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) drained both of her three-point basket in the third quarter to lead the way with six points.

CUW ballooned the lead up to 27 points with 3:42 left in the contest at 63-36 with a three-point basket from senior Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).

The victory extends the winning streak to three games, tying the season high.

Erin Viergutz led the game with 15 points on the evening.

Gracie McNabb finished with a career-high 14 points.

Sharing was caring on Saturday with eight Falcons finishing with an assist. Aubrey DeBauch, Erin Viergutz and Madeline Taubenheim all had three as the Falcons finished with 17.

The Falcons owned the glass with a 50-32 advantage in rebounds. Saturday was the third time in the last four games that CUW has finished with 50 or more rebounds. Aubrey DeBauch and Deidre Lassiter led the way with nine each. Sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) collected eight.

The Falcons welcomed back the alumnae from the program on Saturday and sent them home happy.

The Concordia bench scored 30 points and outscored their counterparts from Illinois Tech, 30-3.

CUW also held a 30-16 advantage in points in the paint.

The Falcons return to the nest on Wednesday when they host St. Norbert. The Green Knights are coming off an 87-58 victory over Concordia Chicago.
