North Central edges Men's Tennis in non-conference play

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team was edged by North Central, 5-4, in non-conference play Friday night. The Falcons and Cardinals split the singles matches, but North Central started the night by taking two-of-three in doubles play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doubles play proved to be the difference as the Cardinals gained wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, respectively. The Falcons doubles win came at the No. 1 spot where the duo of Nolan Rademacher (Monument, Colo.) and Ceejay Schaffner rolled to an 8-3 victory.

- The Cardinals won the other two matches, gaining an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles and an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 doubles match.

- In singles play, the Falcons won matches at the No. 2, 3, and 4 positions but the Cardinals got the three wins they needed for the 5-4 victory. Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) improved to 2-0 on the night as he picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory in his No. 2 singles match.

- Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) netted a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles while Gabe Binversie (Plymouth, Wis.) used a third-set tiebreaker to gain his No. 4 singles victory. Binversie won his first set 6-3 before falling 3-6 in set two. He then won the tiebreaker to 10 points (10-7) for his win.

- The Falcons will host a pair of non-conference matches tomorrow at Pleasant Valley Tennis Center in Jackson. CUW will take on UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. followed by a dual against St. Norbert at 6:30 p.m.
