Men's Soccer comes back for non-conference win at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – Trailing 1-0 entering the break, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team scored twice in the second half for a 2-1 non-conference win over Elmhurst College Tuesday night. Luis Loya and Iven Hernandez scored for the Falcons in the comeback victory.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 2, Elmhurst 1
- Location: Langhorst Field – Elmhurst, Ill.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 6-1-0; Elmhurst 3-2-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) got the Falcons going with his fourth goal of the season. He took a touch from junior Colin Dibb (Hartland, Wis.) and beat the keeper, tying the match at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

- Hernandez (Antioch, Ill.) netted the game-winner in the 71st minute, his first goal in a Falcons uniform. The junior forward was there for a rebound off a shot from senior Sean Cropper (Green Bay, Wis.), helping the Falcons to their sixth non-conference win of the year.

- The Falcons fell behind in the opening half as Didrik Cooper-Seip netted his first goal of the season. The score, which was the only goal of the first half, came in the 26th minute.

- Freshman Nate Yeager (Rio Rancho, N.M.) picked up his fifth win of the year, once again playing the second half for CUW. He made two saves in earning the win. Junior Killian Mielotz (Grafton, Wis.) again got the start for the Falcons.

- CUW held a 23-9 advantage in shots, including an 18-5 edge in the second half. The Falcons put pressure on Elmhurst keeper Nick King all night. King played well for the Bluejays, finishing the match with seven saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Elmhurst would be just fine with not playing against Hernandez again. In two career matches against the Bluejays, Hernandez has three goals, two of those being game-winners. Last season as a member of Dominican University, Hernandez scored twice, including the game-winner with 3:17 remaining in a 2-1 contest.

- The Falcons have struggled in the first half recently. CUW has gone six straight matches without a first-half goal, but has still posted wins in four of those contests. The Falcons opened the season with a three-goal first half against Lawrence.

- The Falcons snapped a four-match skid against Elmhurst with the win. Since the 2003 season, CUW is now 3-4-0 against the Bluejays.

UP NEXT
- CUW returns to the pitch Saturday for a crucial NACC matchup against MSOE. The Falcons won the regular season title a season ago, while MSOE captured the NACC Tournament. CUW will host the Raiders at Fitting Field with the match scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
