Men's Basketball Blasts Lakeland

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team opened the 2023 portion of the schedule with a bang. The Falcons held the sixth-ranked offense in NCAA Division III, averaging 92.6 points to 66 points. The Falcons improve to 4-9 and to 2-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with the 90-66 victory.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with baskets from junior Freeman Jackson (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Gabe Pruss (North Fond Du Lac, Wis.).

The Blue and White never looked back the rest of the evening, never allowing the Muskies to take the lead.

The highwater mark of the first half came at the 3:04 mark of the half when senior Jared Jurss (Sheboygan, Wis.) sank a layup to put the Falcons up 45-28 and took a 48-33 lead into halftime.

The Muskies had no answer for Freeman Jackson in the first half and the Wisconsin native collected 20 points in the first half.

Junior Sam Meerstein (Green Bay, Wis.) drained three three-point baskets in the first half. He had connected on four for the whole season heading into the day.

The fish fry continued in the second half and the Falcons continued to frustrate one of the top offenses in the nation.

CUW held a lead of 20 or more points for most of the half and a layup from Jared Jurss put the Falcons up 34 points.

The 66 points are the second-lowest total on the season for the Muskies.

Tuesday was the second straight game that the Falcons never trailed.

The Falcons feasted in the paint with 60 points in the victory.

Freeman Jackson led all players with 24 points and a career-high seven rebounds.

Jared Jurss continued his continued dominance against the Muskies with his third career double-double performance against Lakeland with 19 points and 10 assists.

Gabe Pruss picked up 16 rebounds in the victory, the sixth most in program history.

Junior Ethan Reis (Thorp, Wis.) and sophomore Ivory Britton (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored their first collegiate points in the victory.

The 11 points for Jack Fritz and 12 points for Sam Meerstein were career-high totals.

The Falcons look to continue the good vibes on Saturday against Illinois Tech on Mel's Charities / Special Olympics Day.
