Cougars Edge Falcons in Home Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's basketball team opened their season at home against the Cougars of Concordia Chicago.

The Blue and White came out hot in the first half with a 41-38 lead after 446.9% shooting from the floor and 44.4% from beyond the arc.  

Senior Matt LeVene (Manitowoc, Wis.) led the Blue and White heading into the break with 12 points.

The Cougars came out hot in the second half with an 18-13 run to kick off the final frame.

The matchup was neck and neck heading down the stretch with an 86-85 score in favor of the Cougars.

The Falcons worked hard in the final couple of seconds but fell short with an 87-85 final in favor of the visitors.

Senior Gabe Pruss (North Fond Du Lac, Wis.) led the flock with a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. 

He added three assists, two steals, and three blocks.

LeVene finished 5-6 from beyond the arc with 16 points.

The Blue and White shot 50% from the floor and 45.2% from three as well as 70% from the free throw line (7-10).

The Cougars ate up the Falcon offense and caused 18 turnovers while only turning the ball over 10 times.

The Blue and White head to Wartburg on Friday for the Buzz Levick Tournament in Waverly, Iowa.
