Coaches say Falcons will need to climb Lacrosse ladder

NAPERVILLE, Il

Adrian College has been picked as the favorite to win the inaugural Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Championship in 2011, according to the preseason poll of the MWLC's eight head coaches.

The Bulldogs, who finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 14-3 and a 5-0 mark against teams who will compete in the MWLC this season, received the maximum total of 49 points and seven first-place votes in the balloting. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Carthage College, which went 6-11 in its first year of varsity competition last season, received one first place vote and 39 points to place second in the poll, while Trine University totaled 38 points and sits in third.

Fontbonne University was picked fourth (28 points), followed by North Central College (23), Albion College (19), the College of Mount St. Joseph (16) and Concordia University of Wisconsin (8).

The 2011 regular season begins in late February. The first MWLC contest will be on Mar. 19, when Albion travels to North Central. The inaugural MWLC Tournament will be played Apr. 30-May 1 at the home site of the regular-season champion.
