APPLETON, Wis. – There was another milestone victory for the Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team on Saturday at Lawrence. The Falcons won their 15th victory of the season on Saturday with a 5-0 victory at Lawrence. The 15 victories are the most in a single season for the program.
Junior Kaitlyn Hansen (Chisago, Minn.) started the scoring with a blast near the Lawrence bench off assists credited to sophomore Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) and senior Savannah Hutchins (Inver Grove Heights).
Junior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) redirected in a shot from freshman Scout Stromberg (Tomahawk, Wis.) on the power play in the second period off a secondary assist to senior Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ontario).
Savannah Hutchins stuffed the puck into the net off a rebound from senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.).
Freshman Sophia Whiteaker (Normal, Ill.) continued her hot streak against the Viking with a shot from the left circle off passes from senior Olivia Kurtz (Plainfield, Ill.) and freshman Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.).
CUW scored the final goal 29 seconds later when Amanda Baier launched a missile while streaking down the ice after being fed from freshman Kayla Gomes (Harrow, Ontario) and Savannah Hutchins.
Freshman Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) collected the second shutout of the weekend with 15 saves on Saturday.
The trio of Amanda Bauer, Natalie Mackrell and Olivia Kurtz all played their 100th game of their CUW careers on Saturday.
The Falcons improve to 15-5-1 and 10-3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. The victory also clinches home ice in the NCHA Slaats Cup Quarterfinals.
The Falcons will travel to Adrian on Friday.
