Falcons and Spartans Skate to a Tie

GENEVA, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team closed out the weekend in Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons tied Aurora, 2-2, to move to 13-5-1 and 8-3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. The Spartans earned the extra point in the standings with a shootout victory.

The scoring started in the first period when senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.) tapped in a loose puck that squirted through on a shot from junior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) in front of the net, off an original shot from senior Brooke Gibson.

The Spartans scored nine minutes later on the power play to tie the game

The Falcons started the second-period scoring when senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) stole the puck from behind the net and gave the Falcons the lead.

The Black and Blue tied the game in the final minute of the second period on a shorthanded goal.

Concordia peppered the Aurora net with an 11-3 advantage in the third period and a 6-1 margin in overtime, but could not get the puck into the net.

Amanda Bauer scored in the shootout, but Aurora claimed the extra point with a 2-1 shootout victory.

CUW held a 37-29 advantage in shots on Saturday. Natalie Mackrell led the contest with eight.

Freshman Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) had 27 saves in the tie.
