Women's Basketball cruises past Concordia Chicago
Box Score: CUW 72, CUC 42
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Concordia University Wisconsin was in control
most of the way as the Falcons routed Concordia University Chicago,
72-42, in the Concordia Invitational Tournament Consolation game on
Saturday afternoon.
CUW (13-7) controlled the boards, forced numerous
turnovers and held the Cougars to 27 percent shooting during a
dominating performance.
"The first eight minutes were chaotic, but we
definitely settled down and played good basketball after that,"
head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones said. "Rebounding was a key
component and our players got after it."
Four Falcons finished in double figures, led by senior
Brittany Zietlow (Oak Creek, Wis.) and sophomore Katie Luethe
(Oshkosh, Wis.) with 13 points each.
Brunner-Jones' team built a 32-20 margin by the
intermission and reserves saw considerable action from that point
on. "We had some excellent minutes from bench players in the first
half and those positive results carried through for the rest of the
afternoon too."
Senior Emily Wesley (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 10
points and senior teammate Brittney Toles (South Beloit, Ill.)
added eight points off the bench with Toles contributing seven
rebounds to the impressive CUW total.
The Falcons (12-2 in league play) host Alverno College
on Wednesday evening in a NAC contest at 7 p.m.
