Men's Tennis well-represented on All-NACC Teams

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team finished the 2017 regular season with a 7-1 record in NACC play, good for a share of the league's regular season title. On Friday, the Falcons were awarded for that success as four singles players, along with all three doubles teams, earned All-NACC accolades.

The Falcons placed the most of any team on the All-NACC lists as Edgewood and MSOE each had three singles players selected and the Raiders secured two doubles teams. The Falcons four players chosen to the All-Singles team were James Forster, Christian Docter, Ceejay Schaffner, and Gabe Binversie. The doubles teams were Forster and Brad Guendel, Docter and Schaffner, and Binversie and Trevor Budewitz.

The four singles players tie the most for CUW in the NACC era (2007-present). The 2011 and 2012 Falcons also received four All-Singles selections. The Falcons also became the first Men's Tennis program in NACC history to place three doubles teams on the All-NACC list. 

Forster (Northbrook, Ill.) posted a 6-1 record in conference play as the Falcons No. 1 singles player. He and John Price of MSOE tied for the best NACC record among No. 1 singles players.

Docter played most of the season in the No. 2 position and posted a 5-1 record in league matches from that spot in the Falcons lineup. Docter also played one match in conference play at No. 3 singles and gained a victory, finishing 6-1 in conference-only matches.

Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) was the Falcons No. 3 singles player for much of the season and he also recorded a 5-1 record in those matches. Schaffner also gained a win in his only No. 2 singles match in conference play.

Binversie (Plymouth, Wis.) was one of only two freshmen to be honored on the All-Singles team. The rookie went 5-1 in singles competition this season from the No. 4 position. He added a win at No. 5 singles in one conference match.

The Falcons doubles teams were impressive all year, especially in conference play where the three teams combined for a 22-2 record. Docter and Schaffner, the No. 2 duo for CUW, went unbeaten in conference matches, a perfect 8-0 record.

The other two Falcons doubles pairings each posted 7-1 records. Forster and Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) served as the Falcons top pairing this year, while Binversie and Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) finished 7-1 at No. 3 doubles.

MSOE, one of the two teams to share the regular season title with the Falcons, swept the major awards. John Price was named the Player of the Year while his teammate Luke Nelson was chosen as the Freshman of the Year. The Raiders' Mike Davidson was selected by his peers as Coach of the Year.
