Men's Hockey stopped by Aurora in NCHA play

MEQUON, Wis. - Despite a 40-20 edge in shots, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team fell to Aurora University, 2-1, Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Jared Rutledge made 39 saves for the Spartans, denying several great chances, which allowed Aurora to escape with the one-goal win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons opened the game with a 15-8 edge in shots in the opening period but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. Bayley Marshall, who had both goals for Aurora, struck 6:22 into the game, putting CUW in an early 1-0 hole.

- Marshall would add his second goal 56 seconds into the second period on a 4-on-3 power play for the Spartans. Jonathan Carlson and Drew Doyon assisted on the play.

- CUW cut the Aurora lead to 2-1 midway through the second period on the first career collegiate goal from freshman Dante Hahn (Victoria, British Columbia). Hahn took advantage of a Spartans turnover on a goal assisted by seniors Tanner Bull (Brooklin, Ontario) and David Haaf (Medicine Hat, Alberta).

- Rutledge finished the game with 39 saves for Aurora in his first start of the season. He made double-digit saves in each period, including 15 in the first and 13 in the final 20 minutes of play.

- Senior Chase Hollander (Random Lake, Wis.) played well for the Falcons, making 18 stops on Friday. He recorded seven in the opening stanza, six in the second and posted a perfect five-save third period.

- The two teams each were whistled nine times for a total of 18 minutes in the box. The Falcons went 0-for-9 on the power play, while Aurora scored once in nine chances.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss was the first in program history for the Falcons against the Spartans. CUW was previously 4-0-0 against Aurora and 3-0-0 inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
