Football Rumbles Past the Red Devils

EUREKA, Ill. – The Falcons remained perfect on the road on the season with a 41-32 victory at Eureka to improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in NACC play.­

The Falcons jumped on the Red Devils early on Saturday.

Senior James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) ran into the end zone for a one-yard rush with 11:53 left in the first quarter.

Linn then connected with senior Tim Houlihan (Lockport, Ill.) for a six-yard pass to close the first quarter.

The Red Devils cut into the Concordia lead with a 13-0 run, but the Falcons responded with a 71-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Samuel Campbell Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) from Linn.

Eureka scored in the final minute of the first half to cut the CUW lead to 21-20 at halftime.

Senior Troy Stewart (Trevor, Wis.) intercepted a pass and returned it for 30 yards to put the Falcons on the one-yard line. Senior Matt Montgomery (Hillsboro, Texas) then rushed the ball in for a touchdown on the next play.

Freshman Andre Casas (Oswego, Ill.) kicked a pair of 38-yard field goals to extend the lead.

The Red Devils did not fold and cut the lead to 34-32 with 4:18 left in the game.

Senior Josiah McDermit (Kansasville, Wis.) secured the victory with an interception he returned for 20 yards for a touchdown with 1:02 left in the game.

James Linn threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

Freshman Pierre Summers III (Columbus, Ga.) led the ground game with 53 yards.

The Falcons picked off a season-high for passes on Saturday with Josiah McDermit snagging two and junior Dalton Lardinois (Green Bay, Wis.) and Troy Stewart all joining the party.

Saturday was the second time that the Concordia defense intercepted four passes. The first was in the 35-20 victory over Judson.

Sophomore Justice Kaneta (Brighton, Colo.) led the defense with 11 tackles in the victory.

CUW will host St. Norbert on Saturday for homecoming.
