Grant Steinike named Call of Duty Coach

MEQUON, Wis. – CUW esports head coach Lewis Smith has named Grant Steinike the Call of Duty coach.

"Even from his days of playing for the CUW CoD team, I knew Speedy would be a great coach," said head coach Lewis Smith. "He emerged as our team's leader right away, which is why I named him captain and now I'm thrilled to hire him as a coach. We have plans for our CoD team to be one of the biggest strengths of our program, and Speedy will be taking complete ownership of the team. He has been competing at a high level for a couple of years now, so I have no doubt he will turn our team into one of the top teams in the nation."

A native of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Steinike is a graduate of Cedarburg High School and a 2020 graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin with a degree in justice public policy.  Steinike spent one year at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh before transferring to CUW.

He has been gaming competitively for three years. He started playing with friends and was picked up by a team. Steinike now plays for the Milwaukee Wranglers.

"I bring a competitive edge into our program," said Steinike. "I've coached for years and know what it takes to be one of the best in this field and I think I can get our Call of Duty over the hump and to the top of the rankings. I played with some of the players on the team this year and I feel very confident with the others we added and I know they can play with the best and with some good coaching they could bring home a national title. The past two years I have dedicated myself to this particular esport and I know the game in and out and my experience as a coach and as a player will give my team an edge as we move into the season."

Steinike is also the head baseball coach for the Bigler Sports Baseball Club and is an assistant coach for the Grafton varsity baseball team.
