2023-24 Coaching Milestones

MEQUON, Wis. – The 2023-24 athletic year was marked by numerous milestones for Concordia University Wisconsin's head coaches and athletic programs. These achievements included career or total program wins, conference titles, and recognitions from third-party organizations.
Women's Tennis – Steve Anschutz
The first notable milestone came early in the year, on Sept.16th, when head tennis coach Steve Anschutz picked up his 100th career conference win on the women's tennis side as the Falcons outsoared the Edgewood Eagles in a tight 5-4 victory.
Under Anschutz's guidance, the CUW women's tennis team claimed a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season title. On Sept. 26th, the Blue and White clinched a share of the title with a 9-0 victory over the Raiders of MSOE.
Four days later, the Falcons sealed the regular season title outright for the second consecutive season and completed their second-straight undefeated regular season campaign with a 9-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Sept. 30th.
With the win over WLC, the Falcons claimed the Concordia Wisconsin women's tennis program's fifth regular-season title under Anschutz and went back-to-back for the first time since the Falcons won three straight regular-season titles under Anschutz during the 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 seasons.
Continuing their dominance, the team won the NACC tournament title on May 5 with a 5-1 victory over Edgewood. This was their sixth championship under Anschutz and their first back-to-back NACC Tournament championship since the three-peat from the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons.

Women's Cross Country – Russ De Lap
On Oct. 28th, the women's cross country team, led by Russ De Lap, dominated the NACC Championships and claimed their fifth conference title under his leadership. The Falcons finished with 31 points, the best team score ever under De Lap, securing their first title since 2017.
Wrestling – Kevin Koch
CUW wrestling head coach Kevin Koch was named the District 8 Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association (WWCA) on Nov. 6th. This was Koch's first time receiving this honor that covers all colleges in Wisconsin.

Women's Ice Hockey – Steve Fabiilli
Early in their season, under head coach Steve Fabiilli, the CUW women's ice hockey team secured the program's 150th win as they took down the Vikings of Lawrence on Nov. 17th with a final score of 6-3.
Men's Basketball – Shawn Cassidy
Men's basketball head coach Shawn Cassidy achieved his 250th career win at CUW following his team's 80-73 win over MSOE on Nov. 29th.
The team also celebrated its 1,200th program win on Jan. 6th with a victory over Dominican.

Men's ACHA Hockey – Shea Klitzke
Under Shea Klitzke, the CUW ACHA men's hockey team had a historic season, winning both the Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) Black Division regular-season title and the Hap Cup title for the first time in program history.
The Falcons secured the NCHL Black Division outright for the second consecutive year on Dec. 9th with a 5-2 victory over DePaul, before winning their first-ever Hap Cup Title with a 9-6 win over DePaul on Feb. 11th, punching their ticket to the National Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Baseball – Eddy Morgan
Eddy Morgan secured his 300th victory as a collegiate coach after the CUW baseball team's 11-0 win over Dominican on March 23rd.
Later in the year, Eddy Morgan was inducted into the Lakeshore Chinooks Hall of Fame, recognizing his accomplishments as the club's manager, including over 200 wins and a championship.
Women's Lacrosse – Emily Schoessow
The women's lacrosse team, under the leadership of Emily Schoessow, also achieved a significant milestone during the 2024 season. On March 28, the Falcons secured an 18-1 victory over Pacific, marking the 100th win for both the team and Schoessow, the only head coach in the history of CUW's women's lacrosse program.
Softball – Steve Crook
In June, softball head coach Steve Crook was recognized as the inaugural Locke Family CUW Coach of the Year Award recipient. This honor recognizes a coach's commitment to Falcon Athletics, leadership, season performance, and representation of Falcon Athletics within the community and their career.
Next year, the Concordia University Wisconsin coaches and programs will look to surpass even more milestones and career achievements.
