Falcons Finish Second at Green and White Invite

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The CUW women's track & field team posted a solid outing at the Wisconsin Luther Green and White Invite on Saturday. The Falcons finished in second place out of nine teams on the day with 151 points. The host Warriors won the competition with 233 points. The Blue and White won two events on Saturday. 

Freshman Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) made a splash in her collegiate javelin debut with a winning mark of 37.24 meters to break the school record. Junior Catherine Romine (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) roped in a fourth-place mark of 23.53 meters.

The Falcons showed their speed when they took the crown in the 4x100 meter relay on Saturday. The team of sophomore Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.), junior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.), sophomore Karly Ayotte (Francis Creek, Wis.) and junior Hannah Ebel (Mount Clemens, Mich.) posted a winning time of 51.01.

CUW also finished in second place in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Hannah Ebel, senior LaNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.), sophomore Naomi Gahan (Cedarburg, Wis.) and sophomore Sarah Birenbaum (Cascade, Wis.) pieced together a time of 4:38.73.

Sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) secured a second-place mark of 5.25 meters in the long jump. Karly Ayotte reached 4.58 meters in fourth place, sophomore Aubrey Thiede (Slinger, Wis.) was fifth at 4.43 meters and Catherine Romine was seventh at 4.38 meters.

Aubrey Thiede cleared 1.35 meters to take second place in the high jump.

Junior Paige Winterfeldt (Rosemount, Minn.) claimed the silver medal in the triple jump at 9.79 meters. Aubrey Thiede reached fourth place at 8.94 meters.

Hannah Ebel led CUW in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.34 in third place. In fourth place was Maya Hielscher at 16.66.

Four Falcons scored points in the 1500-meter run on Saturday. LaNea Bartel led the flock in third place at 5:05.93. Junior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) clocked in at 5:22.89 in fifth place, sophomore Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) was sixth at 5:27.45 and freshman Ella Stader (Oostburg, Wis.) was seventh at 5:34.89

Jenna Zahorik advanced to the 100-meter dash finals where she clocked in at 12.84 in third place.

Maya Hielscher also picked up a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:17.97. Lindsay Pluister followed behind in fourth place at 1:18.28 and junior Kaitlynn Sabish (Campbellsport, Wis.) crossed the finish line at 1:31.29 in sixth place.

In the 200-meter dash, Jenna Zahorik led the birds in fourth place at 26.37 and Sabrina Moore was right behind in fifth place at 26.53.

A trio of Falcons scored in the 800-meter run. Naomi Gahan led the way for CUW in fifth place at 2:41.40. Junior Madison Chiappetta (Lenexa, Kan.) recorded a seventh-place time of 2:46.09 and Sarah Birenbaum was in eighth place at 2:46.71.

The Falcons will have one last tune-up before the NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships when they travel to St. Norbert on Saturday.
