Women’s Tennis Battles Under the South Carolina Sun

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The CUW women's tennis team double dipped in the spring break action on Tuesday when they took on Wooster and NAIA Indiana-Kokomo in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Blue and White were bounced in both matches and move to 9-7 on the season.

The Falcons sank the Scots at No. 1 doubles to start the day. The team of senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) secured an 8-2 victory.

Senior Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) picked up the lone singles point with a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Abby Aitken at No. 6 singles.

The Falcons fell in three third-set tiebreakers against Wooster to turn the tide in favor of the Black and Yellow and a 7-2 victory for Wooster.

CUW closed the day against the NAIA Cougars of Indiana-Kokomo on Tuesday and fell short, 3-6.

Senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis. and freshman Cheyanne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) showed the Cougars whose boss and edged the cats with an 8-7 (8) victory at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis.) canned Larissa O'Rourke at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).

Freshman Karen Frerking (Fort Wayne, Ind.) folded Kelsey Rhodes at No. 6 singles with a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 1-0 (12-10) victory.

The birds look to sing a winning tune on Thursday when they close spring break play against the Bison of Nichols and the Big Blue of Millikin.
