Women’s Soccer Obliterates Edgewood in the NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team rolled past the Eagles of Edgewood in the NACC North Division Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday evening. The Falcons dropped 10 goals on Edgewood in a 10-1 victory. The victory propels CUW to 8-2-0 on the year.

It took CUW less than five minutes to find the back of the net. Senior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) struck first on a sharp-angled shot.

Junior Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) started her scoring spree with her first goal in the 21st minute.

Downs found the back of the net four minutes later off a pass from sophomore Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway).

Karoline Haugland ended the first-half scoring off a pass from Isabel Downs.

Sophomore Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) landed a hat trick with three goals in a seven-minute stretch. She scored off assists from sophomore Kailey Lewis (Eagle, Idaho) and Allison McElwee. She also struck on a penalty kick.

Isabel Downs earned her hat trick in the 73rd minute off a deflection on a pass from Allison McElwee.

Freshman Madelaine Specht (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) secured a goal off a cross from sophomore Grace Wilshire (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 75th minute.

The Eagles broke up the shut out in the 83rd minute, but the Falcons responded with a goal from Grace Wilshire sneaking past the Edgewood defense off a pass from sophomore Ashley Swihart (Oostburg, Wis.).

Senior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) secured her eighth victory of the season in the net.

CUW finished Wednesday with 36 shots, with Isabel Downs recording eight.

Isabel Downs and Selena Esten are the first CUW duo to have a pair of hat tricks since Downs did so with Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.) in 2018 against Wisconsin Lutheran on Oct. 3, 2018.

CUW will compete for the NACC North Division title on Sunday at MSOE.
