Johnson's goal gives Women's Soccer 1-0 victory over Trinity International

MEQUON, Wis. – Freshman Ashley Johnson tallied her first career collegiate score, which was the only goal of a 1-0 Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer win over Trinity International on Labor Day. The Falcons goal came in the 37th minute of action.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 1, Trinity International 0
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 2-0-1, Trinity International 1-2-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Johnson (Chesterfield, Mich.) scored her goal 35:36 into the match on an assist from senior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.). The rookie was about 20 yards out and placed one beautifully in the upper left portion of the goal to give the Falcons the game-winning score.

- From there it was all about defense for the Falcons who allowed Trinity International to get just one shot on goal in the match and nine shots total. Junior Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) made one save for her sixth career shutout.

- The Falcons mids and defenders were outstanding in the match, limiting Trinity all afternoon. CUW finished with 16 shots compared to nine for the Trojans.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- Pfannerstill has been a part of every CUW score this season with two goals and three assists thus far. She now has 107 career points.

- Worthing has six career shutouts with three of those coming last season and two coming in her freshman campaign. The junior now has 93 career saves and a career 1.44 goals against average.

- The starting back four of Josie Dombrowski (Bartlett, Ill.), Faith Palmreuter (Frankenmuth, Mich.), Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.) and Krista Oelhafen (Allenton, Wis.) got it done on Monday, playing exceptional defense. Add in senior reserve Tehani Dee (Slinger, Wis.), freshman forward/defender Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) and an outstanding midfield and the Falcons offer a difficult matchup for anyone this season.

- The Trojans are ranked 17th in the first NAIA poll of the season. The Falcons have faced two NAIA schools already this season in Concordia Ann Arbor and Trinity International.

THE OPPOSITION

- McKenzie Chappell made four saves for the Trojans, while Morgan Elzinga and Samantha Yasatan each finished with two shots.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will host No. 14 Lake Forest two days from now at Fitting Field. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
