Straehler, Apazeller earn NSCAA all-region honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Junior Lauren Straehler and sophomore Ashley Apazeller were named
to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America
All-Central Region Second and Third team, respectively, the
organization announced Saturday, Dec. 10.
Straehler (midfielder, Pewaukee,
Wis.) led the Falcons with 38 points - 15 goals, eight assists. She
also scored three game-winning goals and was 1-for-1 on penalty
kicks. The 5-foot-6, right-footer was also named All-Northern
Athletics Conference First Team after leading CUW to the
quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament.
Apazeller
(forward/defender, Jackson, Wis.) scored three goals and tallied
five assists. The 5-foot-4, right-footer played all three positions
on the field throughout the year and helped the Falcons defense
allow just 16 goals in 12 NAC matches. She was also named to the
All-NAC Second team for her efforts this past season.
It is the first time ever in CUW
women's soccer history that two players have earned NSCAA
all-region honors in the same season. In addition, Straehler and
Apazeller are two of just eight student-athletes from the NAC to
receive this honor.
