Falcons and Titan women’s soccer play to 1-1 double overtime draw

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Concordia University Wisconsin got an early score from Hannah Brehmer and non-conference opponent UW-Oshkosh started the second half with a goal by Nicole Strieker, but the rest of the contest featured great defense as the sides played to a 1-1 double overtime draw Tuesday night.

Brehmer's (sophomore, Eagle River, Alaska) 10-yard blast at 3:55 came via a Kelli Wittenberg (senior, Sturtevant, Wis.) assist, but Titan goalkeepers corralled the final dozen CUW shots on goal.

Falcon goalie Samantha Anacker (junior, Janesville, Wis.) was credited with nine saves as head coach Ryan Middendorf's team improved to 10-6-1 on the season.

"The early score gave us a huge lift but they wore us down in the second half and I'd have to say I'm satisfied with the draw," Middendorf said. "They are a pretty good team."

The fifth seeded Falcons will play a first round tournament match at MSOE on Sunday. The NAC is a league of haves and have nots this season. The six tourney qualifiers all have glossy records and their losses have only come in matches against the other members of that elite 6 team tourney field. Even with a 9-3-0 conference record, CUW is no better than a 5th seed as determined by head-head play with the other 5 qualifiers.
