Wrestling Wraps Up Day One of Pete Willson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team traveled to Wheaton, Illinois to compete in the 32-team Pete Willson Invitational Tournament on Friday. The first day of action saw four Falcons wrestlers collect wins, and the efforts included six combined falls and technical falls.

Senior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) was Concordia's representative at 157 pounds, collecting two wins after losing by fall in his opening bout. The wins by technical fall and decision granted the Falcons 2.5 team points.

Senior Jonathan Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) won his opening two matches of the day, tallying a major decision and technical fall.

Senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) went 4-1 on the day for the Falcons, notching a major decision before losing by fall in the second round of his respective bracket. In the consolation rounds, Smith collected a technical fall and two first-period falls to tally 12 team points for Concordia.

At 285 pounds, senior Cam Mercer (Glenview, Ill.) notched a fall victory in his opening match, securing another three points for the Falcons.

Smith will wrestle to pick up a placement for Concordia on Saturday, January 27 in the second day of the event.
