Falcons Take Close Loss to Firebirds

KENOSHA, Wis. - CUW Wrestling fell to the Carthage Firebirds in a close 25-20 dual meet on Thursday night in the team's second meet of the season.

The Firebirds jumped out to an early 15-0 advantage after Edwin Estrada-James won by decision, and Loren Semler and Cole Nelson took victories by fall.

Freshman Cole Ramos (Kenosha, Wis.) improved to 2-0 on the young season for Concordia, picking up a fall late in the first period to grant the Falcons their first points of the evening.

After Zaren Anderson responded with a fall victory for the Firebirds, junior Jeremy Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) won by decision in the 165-pound weight class to tally his first win of the season.

Collin Ruiz would take the next bout for Carthage, but Concordia would go on to win the final three matches of the night. Senior Jonathan Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) would join his brother on the winning side of the scoresheet, taking a victory at 184 by a 5-1 decision. Fellow senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) would pick up a technical fall early in the second period to bring the score to 25-17. Both Pullen and Smith improved to 2-0 on the season, and senior Cam Mercer (Glenview, Ill.) would win by a 4-2 decision in the heavyweight bout to secure his first win of the 2023 campaign.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 11th, to participate in the Lakeland Scramble.
