Falcons Extend Win-Streak to Six at Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The CUW women's lacrosse team took on the CUC Cougars in NACC action on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons came in on a five-game winning streak which started with a 16-15, overtime victory over Kalamazoo on March 30.

The Falcons struck first with an unassisted goal two minutes into the first quarter from freshman Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.).

The Cougars netted three unanswered to finish the first quarter with a 3-1 lead.

Cardinale opened the second quarter to cut the Falcon deficit to one. Junior Olivia Niego (La Grange, Ill.) scored the only other goal of the second quarter on a free-position shot with 49 seconds remaining in the half.

Both teams opened the second half with a woman-up goal. Junior Eliana Fuchs (Brookfield, Wis.) netted the first off an assist from fellow junior Savannah Schweiger (Eagle, Wis.).

The Cougars scored their first woman-up goal of the game to answer.

The Falcons went on a three-goal run with goals from sophomore Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.), freshman Ella Maltby (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.), and a woman-down goal from junior Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.) to push their lead to three. Sophomore Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.) assisted McCardle. 

The other two goals came from free-position shots.

The Cougars scored with 1:14 left in the third quarter.

Niego found Cardinale with 59 seconds left in the quarter to net her third goal of the game. The teams headed into the final frame with an 8-5 Falcon lead.

Maltby scored her second free-position goal with just under 12 minutes remaining in the matchup to give the Birds a 9-5 lead.

Concordia Chicago netted their sixth goal of the game with nine and a half minutes left on the clock.

 Kami McCardle and sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) netted the 10th and 11th goals for the Falcons. Cardinal picked up the assist to McCardle and Mackrell scored on a free-position shot.

The Cougars finished the game off to end with a final score of 11-7 in favor of the flock.

The Falcon offense was led by Cardinale with three goals on six shots and one assist.

Sophomore Madisen Myers (Rosemount, Minn.) improved to 3-3 on the year in net with 12 saves.

The Falcons face Aurora on Saturday and look to lay claim to the top spot in the conference standings heading into playoff season.
