Falcons complete NCAA Women's Golf Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Following back-to-back team scores of 413 in the opening two rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, Concordia University Wisconsin responded with its best round of the tournament. The Falcons recorded a 20-shot improvement, firing a 393 on Friday morning to complete the third round.

The round began Friday morning and was a shotgun start due to inclement weather conditions on both Wednesday and Thursday. Due to severe weather in the area that affected earlier rounds, the NCAA made an administrative decision to cut the field from 21 teams to 12 for the final round, meaning CUW was left out. The Falcons concluded the Championship in 20th place.

Sophomore Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) once again paced the Falcons with a team-best 85, her second best score of the tournament (84 in round one). Puch fired two birdies during Friday morning's third round on the par-4 6th and 14th holes. She also recorded six pars, including four on the back nine. Puch was 3-over on the back nine, shooting a 39.

Next in line for CUW was freshman Megan Reddersdorf (Marengo, Ill.), as she had her best score of the tournament with a 98. Reddersdorf began play on hole 17 because of the weather delay and completed her scorecard with six pars and a birdie. Reddersdord caught fire on the 10th hole by parring four of her final seven holes and birdieing one. Her birdie came on the par-5 10th.

Freshman Bridget Slater (Roseau, Minn.) continued to improve by again showcasing control from one round to the next. Slater, who opened play with a 124 Tuesday, shot a 114 in round two and improved that number by 14 strokes with a 100. She totaled four pars and began her round on the 18th hole, parring three of her final five holes.

Rounding out the Falcons lineup in round three was sophomore Lexi Westphal (Brownsville, Wis.). Westphal carded a 110 in starting on hole 17. She had a 50 on the back nine where her two pars came on holes 12 and 17.

The third round wraps up yet another strong season for the Women's Golf program. The Falcons captured their second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship in the fall with Puch earning NACC Player of the Year honors. The Falcons future looks bright as the entire roster was made up of underclassmen in 2013-14.
