Women's Golf increases lead at NACC Championship

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin shot its lowest round of the season and increased its lead to seven strokes at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference on Sunday at Trappers Turn Golf Club. Nina Puch also remained atop the leaderboard after shooting an 80 at the par 72, 5,911 yard course.

The Falcons carded a 363 score and turned a one-shot advantage into a seven stroke lead behind strong play from Puch (sophomore, Des Plaines, Ill.) and Lexi Westphal, who shot an 89 which was her lowest round of the season. Madalyn Joannes also tied her lowest round of the season with a 97.

University of Northwestern remained in second place after shooting a 369 for a 557 two-day total. CUW has a 550 total (187-363). Finni Simko charged up the leaderboard with an 85 to take control of second place with a 130 total.

Puch's 80 was the third lowest round of the season and gave her a 122 total (14-over-par) and an eight-stroke lead entering the final round on Monday. She carded two birdies and a par on the front nine, before heating up for a 1-over-par 37 on the incoming nine holes.

Westphal (sophomore, Brownsville, Wis.) also drained a pair of birdie putts and had two pars for a 44 on the front. She has now signed for scores of 43, 44 and 45 in the Championship, and still remains in a tie for third place.

Freshman Megan Reddersdorf (Marengo, Ill.) was two shots off tying her lowest round of the season after walking off the course with 97 strokes. The rookie sank two birdie putts on the front nine for a 48, before shooting a 49 on the back nine to slide down two spots on the leaderboard to the 14th position.

Joannes (sophomore, Wauwatosa, Wis.) tied her lowest round of the season and was a shot off tying her career low after signing for a 97. The second-year golfer drained a birdie putt on the par-5 third hole and had two pars on the front nine for a 48, before shooting a 49 on the back to climb two spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 24th.

Freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) shot a 110, which included a par on the front nine. She improved eight strokes from the outward nine to the inward nine holes of play. Metanova is in the 37th position.

CUW looks to capture is second-consecutive NACC Championship on Monday with the first tee time set for 8:33 a.m.
