Landgraf has career game, Falcons season ends in NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – Madelyn Landgraf scored a career-high 25 points on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough for Concordia University Wisconsin in a quarterfinal game of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. Their season ended with a 65-58 loss to Concordia University Chicago.

Landgraf gave everything she had on the court, scoring 12 points in the opening half and adding 13 more over the final 20 minutes of play. She drained a trio of 3-pointers and stole three passes in a gritty effort.

CUW appeared to be in control at halftime with a 32-22 lead, but CUC quickly erased that advantage with an 11-1 scoring run during the first three minutes and 30 seconds of the second half. There were seven scoring ties and seven lead changes in the nail biter, but it was the Cougars who outscored the Falcons 12-2 during the final four minutes of the game.

The Falcons end their season with 19 victories, which is a win total reached eight times during head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones tenure. They also finished an 11-2 record inside the R. John Buuck Field House this season.

CUW shot 44.8 percent in the opening half and its defense performed well by holding CUC to just 24.1 percent and 3-of-11 from downtown. The Falcons scored 18 points in the paint and received 11 points from their bench by the intermission.

CUC's bench sparked the rally and kept them in the game until taking over in the final minutes. The Cougars defense also stepped up and limited the Falcons to 0-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-6 at the free throw line, over the final four minutes and forced two turnovers.

Landgraf (junior, Elkhart Lake, Wis.) also grabbed four rebounds and assisted on three field goals. Junior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) was the other Falcon to score in double-figures with 11 points and seven rebounds (four offensive). Freshman Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had four points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Sophomore Sammi Blissett (Springfield, Ill.) recorded three points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Morgan Jahnke paced the Cougars (16-10) with 22 points (11-of-14 free throws) and seven rebounds, while Lauren Orr tallied 10 points off the bench. Angelik Young had eight points and six rebounds in a reserve role, and Kassy Koehler grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
