Banana Slugs Bounce CUW

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Falcons battled the Banana Slugs of California-Santa Cruz on Friday night, but fell short in the first match of the west coast road trip. UCSC defended its home court with a 3-1 victory to send the Falcons to 0-2 on the young season. The Banana Slugs secured the match with a 25-16, 32-34, 25-19, 25-20 victory.

The Banana Slugs struck first on Friday with a 25-16 victory in set one.

The Falcons fought back and battled the Banana Slugs for the long haul in the second set and came out on top with a thrilling 34-32 victory in the second set. The Falcons secured the victory with a UCSC service error and attacking error.

The Slugs secured the victory with 25-19 and 25-20 victories.

Sophomore Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) led the flock with 19 kills and added four blocks.

Junior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) hit a blistering .524 with 12 kills on Friday.

Freshman Kellen Gonzales (Waukesha, Wis.) picked up a team-high 15 digs.

Freshman Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) finished with 37 assists and freshman Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) led CUW with five blocks.

CUW looks to bounce back on Saturday against Menlo and Santa Cruz.
