Regents Get Best of Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. - CUW men's basketball dropped its contest with Rockford on Saturday afternoon, meeting a red-hot Regents team that improved to 7-2 following the win. Senior guard Zech Hans (Hartland, Wis.) led the Falcons offense with a career-high 19 points on the effort as one of three Falcons to finish in double-digits.

Concordia opened the afternoon on a 12-2 run, swallowing rebounds while making it difficult for the Regents to generate offense. Senior Sam Meerstein (Green Bay, Wis.) recorded the first of his seven total steals in the opening minutes, ultimately becoming just the seventh Falcon to record seven or more steals in a game.

Rockford would seize the lead briefly with just under nine minutes to go in the half, but Concordia erased the lead just as quickly as it was gained, going on a 9-0 in the ensuing minutes. The Regents once again managed to close the gap, drawing within two at 40-38 as the first half came to a close.

Rockford came out of the gate hot in the second half, scoring nine of its first 12 points to take a four-point lead. Although the Falcons would come close to even as the half went on, the Regents did not relinquish their lead, slowly growing it over the closing minutes to win 83-73.

Meerstein would finish as Concordia's second-leading scorer in the contest, recording 11 of his 18 points in the second half. Senior center Gabe Pruss (North Fond du Lac) notched 12 points for the Falcons while leading the team with six assists.

The Falcons will look to get back into the win column on Dec. 13th against the 3-5 Edgewood Eagles.
