Football Silences High-Flying Rockford Offense

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW football team silenced one of the highest-ranked offenses in NCAA Division III on Saturday afternoon. The Regents were averaging 41.75 points per game and the Falcons walked away with a 41-7 victory to improve to 4-1 and 2-1 in the NACC.

The first points of the day were scored by senior James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) on a 15-yard toss to junior Christian Booker (Chicago, Ill.) early in the first quarter.

The Regents took the lead with a six-yard run with 6:41 left in the first quarter on a six-yard quarterback rush.

CUW wasted no time to take back the lead as freshman Pierre Summers III (Columbus, Ga.) returned the kickoff for 84 yards and the Falcons never looked back.

The Linn to Booker connection pushed the lead up to 20-7 in the second quarter on a five-yard pass.

James Linn had a 20-yard rush to give the Falcons a 20-point lead just before halftime.

Senior Tim Houlihan (Lockport, Ill.) quarter a nine-yard pass from Linn in the third quarter and Pierre Summers III closed the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 22-yard rush to the left into the end zone.

Defense reigned supreme for the Falcons on Saturday.

With the Regents on the goal line, junior Chase Coots (Round Rock, Texas) forced a fumble that was recovered by junior Evan Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) in the end zone.

Sophomore Ben Kraft (Wauwatosa, Wis.) also intercepted a pass against the passing-heavy offense. Kraft also finished with a game-high 15 tackles and a pass break up.

The Falcons' defense stood tall on multiple occasions and stopped Rockford on three fourth-down attempts.

CUW finished with five tackles for loss in the victory.
