Falcons fall on the road to Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Concordia University Wisconsin only trailed 6-0 after the first quarter at Augsburg, but was outscored 34-7 in the second and third quarters which was too much for the Falcons to overcome, as they fell to the Auggies 54-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons were shut out after the first quarter following a rushing touchdown by Augsburg quarterback Ayrton Scott from three yards out, which was followed by a failed point-after attempt.
- Auggie running back Tyrell Martin scored two rushing touchdowns before CUW finally got on the scoreboard near the end of the first half. A 24-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore quarterback Aaron Nixon (North Prairie, Wis.) gave the Falcons their first points.
- Following Nixon's touchdown run, Augsburg scored 27 unanswered points taking a 47-7 lead.
- CUW was able to find the end zone two more times before the final whistle on a 28-yard touchdown reception by junior Tyler Majewski (Elgin, Ill.) and a three-yard touchdown run by senior running back Austin Padilla (Oshkosh, Wis.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This was the fifth-consecutive game dating back to the 2014 season in which the Falcons have recorded at least on interception.
- CUW was only 2-of-15 (13%) on third down conversions.
- Junior defensive back Bryan Thomas (Lowell, Ind.) led the team with 10 total tackles and also forced a fumble.
- Nixon finished the game with 236 passing yards on 23-of-32 for one touchdown and no interceptions. He also had 57 rushing yards on 14 attempts and a touchdown.
- Junior Dominic Saragaglia (Schaumburg, Ill.) led the team with 80 yards receiving on five receptions.
- Majewski's touchdown reception was the first of his career.
- Freshman punter Jacob Mason (Slinger, Wis.) punted seven times for a total of 242 yards and a career-long 51 yard punt.

THE OPPOSITION
- Scott threw for 255 yards on 17-of-25 passing for two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 111 yards and one touchdown.
- Joey Sonnenfeld led the Auggies with eight receptions and game-high 188 receiving yards.
- Tyrell Martin ran 12 times for 80 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
- As a team, the Auggies rushed for 302 yards and six touchdowns.
- Alan Medina-Gonzalez led Augsburg with seven tackles (four solo) and had half a sack. The Auggies defense ended the game with two fumble recoveries.
