Falcons win national title in Optic Rifle

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Concordia Wisconsin captured its first club Shooting Sports title in the Optic Rifle on Sunday at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation National competition. The team of Mikaela Leach, Andrew Handrich and Grant Steinike won by less than a second in the Collegiate Open division.

The trio also placed second as a team in the Iron Rifle with a total time of 276.59 and 1911 Model with a time of 396.21.

Mikaela Leach was the fastest woman in the Optics Rifle as an individual with a time of 52.92, which was nearly five seconds faster than the next shooter. She was also second in the Iron Rifle with a time of 53.09 and fourth in the 1911 Model with a time of 104.08.

Grant Steinike also had the eighth fastest time in the Optics Rifle as an individual with a time of 41.54. He was also seventh in the 1911 Model with a time of 79.27. Andrew Handrich took ninth as an individual in 1911 Model with a time of 92.86.

There were 16 other collegiate teams from around the country competing; including West Point, Florida State, Texas A&M and others.
