No. 8 Cal Lutheran Trips Up Men's Volleyball

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's volleyball team fell to 2-9 overall after suffering a 3-0 loss to the nationally-ranked Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran. This marks the Falcons' fourth match against a top-ranked opponent in their last five games.

CUW lost 19-25 in the opening set, with freshman Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.) leading the offense, recording six kills on a .600 hitting percentage. Freshman Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.) also contributed three kills on a .400 attacking percentage.

Despite staying competitive throughout the set, the Falcons could not close the gap as the Kingsmen consistently answered CUW's scoring attempts.

The second set saw the Falcons fall 21-25, despite another strong performance from Kolozsy, who posted four kills with a .429 attacking percentage. Scott and junior Will Wood (Savage, Minn.) each added three kills, with Wood finishing the set with a perfect attacking percentage.

Senior Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman Hayden Hurley (Gilbert, Ariz.) combined to cut the deficit to 8-12 with a key rally.

However, the Kingsmen responded with a run, extending their lead to 20-13. The Falcons fought back, cutting the deficit to four at 19-23 after a kill by Kolozsy, but Cal Lutheran closed out the set to take a 2-0 lead.

Fueled by their momentum, the Kingsmen completed the sweep with a 25-18 victory in the third set.

Despite the loss, the Falcons showcased an efficient attack, hitting .330 as a team.

Reid Scott led the way with 13 kills and a .300 attacking percentage, while Kolozsy contributed 10 kills with an impressive .444 hitting percentage and a team-high eight digs. Junior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) added seven kills with a .294 attacking percentage, and Will Wood finished with five kills on a .714 hitting percentage.

Hurley dished out a team-high 22 assists, while senior Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) recorded 10 assists.

Defensively, Miller notched the Falcons' only solo block, while Kolozsy and junior Chase Ammons (Elm Grove, Wis.) teamed up for a block in the second set.

Next up, the Falcons will open conference play with a road match against the Green Knights of St. Norbert on Tuesday, February 18th.
