Men's Lacrosse holds of Benedictine for road MLC victory

LISLE, Ill. – Concordia Wisconsin held off a late fourth-quarter rally by Benedictine on Saturday afternoon to earn a tough 7-6 victory during Midwest Lacrosse Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW built a 3-0 advantage just over nine minutes into the game and led 6-3 at the end of three quarters. The Eagles made a late charge, scoring three goals in the final period to get within a score, 7-6, with 4:28 left in the game.
- The Falcons caused a pair of turnovers, Garrett Wohlford made two saves and they ran out the final 1:02 on the clock to secure their second-consecutive league victory.
- Senior Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) dominated the faceoff circle, winning 13-of-17 attempts to help CUW control much of the possession. As well, they scored on 1-of-2 man-up opportunities.
- During the first 45 minutes of play when the Falcons offense was building a 6-3 lead, their defense was working hard and causing 10 turnovers.
- Senior Marino Best (Nanaimo, British Columbia) led the offensive attack with two goals and an assist, while five of his teammates found the back of the net once. Freshman Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Zachary Foster (Calgary, Alberta) each recorded an assist.
- Senior Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) and senior Patrick Leen (Park Ridge, Ill.) each caused four turnovers, respectively, and Bundra picked up eight ground balls. In addition, Wilson had five ground balls and senior Zachary Doll (Kirkwood, Mo.) and sophomore Paul Fisher (Champlin, Minn.) each scooped up four ground balls.
- Wohlford (freshman, Rochester, Minn.) made eight saves in a complete game winning effort in goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It is the fourth time in program history the Falcons have begun league play with back-to-back victories.

THE OPPOSITION
- Matthew Johnson led all players with a trio of goals, while Dell Hune netted a pair of scores. Corbin Gett also scored for the Falcons.
- Gett led the defensive efforts with eight ground balls, while Jamic Adkins twice caused a turnover.
- Jeffrey Smitheram made 11 saves, including six in the opening quarter, during a complete game losing effort.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons host Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4:00 pm for a non-conference game at Fitting Field.
