Falcons Top Trine in Season Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Caitlin Lowery era got off to a sensational start on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons snapped their losing streak to Trine with a 228.175 to 223.030 victory on Sunday.

The Blue and White posted higher scores in four of the six events and in 10 heats against the Thunder.

The Falcons took an early lead on Sunday with 32.650 points in the compulsory event. CUW scored 9.400 points in the pyramid heat and 9.700 points in the toss heat.

CUW added to the lead with 24.900 points in the acro event. The Birds ended the event with 9.100 points in the seven-element heat.

The Thunder cut into Concordia's lead after the Falcons scored 27.600 in the pyramid event. CUW secured 9.400 points in the synchronized and open pyramids.

The Birds again elevated the lead with 25.050 points in the toss event. The high-water mark came in the 450 salto toss with 8.750 points.

Concordia posted 39.725 points in the tumbling event to push the lead even higher. In the duo pass junior Ainslee Taylor (Alto, Mich.) and senior Ellen Marie Sanders (Joppa, Md.) secured 7.050 points. Sophomore Cadia Sanders (Joppa, Md.) had 7.550 points in the open pass.

Concordia Wisconsin wrapped up the day with 78.250 points in the team event.

The day ended with the celebration of the senior class of Amanda Owens (Stevens Point, Wis.), Lexie Pfeifle (Macomb, Mich.), Ellen Marie Sanders and Madisen Arendt (Waukesha, Wis.)

Trine falls to 1-2 on the young season. The Thunder had won the previous five meetings against Concordia. The all-time series is now tied at five.

The Falcons will fly east to Buffalo, New York, to take on Buffalo State and Adrian on March 2.
